Tom Ford Black Violet is a vivid dark-purple weapon that conquers all. This bold mossy scent focuses on a rich dark floral violet and a juicy, moreish plethora of fruits and hints of lichen. At first spray, a bouquet of clean citruses and hints of earthy moss hits you. The fresh cleanness bares some resemblance to limes, lemons, and bergamot. This is blended perfectly with earthy tenacious oakmoss and treemoss. Moss was a common base ingredient used for the Tom Ford scents of yesteryear. The moss anchors the scent. It also darkens the citrus notes. It adds texture and enhances the violet's fruity nuances. The mix of citruses and moss mellows and becomes slightly darker and more fruity. Morphing into a berry-like note. However, the berry note is the violet in actuality - known for its floral yet fruity scent. Both the smell and taste of violet are often mistakenly confused for a berry-like note.

It is used in those powdery purple candies; even then, it has a berry-like aroma & flavour. Although the violet has a slight'candied nuance. Just enough, not cloying and not enough to be gourmand. The violet is more life-like, but so well blended into the scent that it's hard to spot. Additionally, the citruses boost the fruity nuances of the violet further.

So, the violet evokes the juicy ripeness of blackcurrant. But the floral tones still remain, especially when smelt from afar - but are subtle.

The three main notes-citrus, violet, and moss-are so well balanced that, as the scent develops, it becomes harder to pinpoint each one. This is good, as it shows how well the makers crafted this scent. As the scent approaches the dry down, everything settles-creating a rich, harmonious balance. The moss from earlier reappears, slightly stronger, as a velvety bed for the other notes. As the last few hours approach, it gradually dims, yet it retains enough potency to be picked up near the skin. It lasts for 3-6 hours, depending on the season and occasion. On skin, it lasts about 3-4 hours but becomes intimate quickly. On clothing, it lasts longer, the better part of the 3-6 hours (so around 4-6 hours)-becoming intimate by the 4th or 5th hour. Black Violet is a very desirable scent. It has a magnetic quality.

It makes the wearer want to try it again and again, especially when sprayed on the wrist. Not only does it contain the note of violet (as the name suggests), but what comes to mind is the colour-violet (but a darker shade of violet).

It is a purple, dark, juicy, moreish scent. A titan in the Tom Ford perfumery arsenal. They are personal and creative takes. They offer a small glimpse into what a scent might smell like to others. Other than that, they are opinion based.

Usually Black Violet does go for quite a lot more than this one which again is 100ml and this goes for even less than the few exorbitantly priced US listings. This is also the original release and not the newer lesser 2019 re-released version (which is also rare).

Black Violet was re-released in 2019. Black Violet was re-released due to demand. But, those re-releases with the gold-plaque lacked some of the power and potency of the originals. The one listed is the original release from long ago. It's stronger and more potent than the 2019 re-release in the reserve collection.
